It's 2009!

Well It's been a little bit since I have posted an entry and admittedly most of my recent posts have just been about what I bought. Hopefully they didn't come off as shallow as they probably sounded, but I really saw the purchase of the tractor, dozer and truck as the first real steps to building our new house. I find that very exciting.

If you haven't been checking out the site lately, I would like to point out the new blog section on the site which is dedicated to sharing our experience of building a new home. I will likely be so busy during this process that I won't get to blog much but I hope to provide pics as I build the whole thing and to walk through the process not just from a technical perspective but also to share our thoughts, dreams and concerns. I hope Jen might begin to post as well, so you can get both of our perspectives on it.

I find it extremely interesting especially since we are likely working against the trends here, and trying to attempt something (building a rather large house, maybe too big) during the potentially worst economic times of my life time.

I expect to run against the largest project roadblocks that I have ever encountered (even though I manage quite a few projects for work.) Some things I expect to run into are a tightening credit market, skepticism from family and friends, self-doubt, changing family priorities, unreliable subcontractors, inspection and county planning division issues, spouse alignment issues (trying to have Jen and I agree,) and even a few times where mother nature might not work in our favor.

Other than the house building (planning stages right now) we just recently went through the holidays combined with 2 feet of snow. We went without power for 5 days and the phone was out for about 7 days. We dug our car out (that we got stuck in the driveway) the day the phone went out and then the power went out that night. We left the next day to hang out at the in-laws as it was almost Christmas anyways. We were suppose to host Christmas dinner but we ate instead at my in-laws and delayed Christmas dinner till early January.

Although we love Christmas, and celebrate it to remember the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ it is also great when the hustle and bustle slows down a bit. I find new years as a good time to reevaluate your priorities and to push myself harder in some cases. I have been working out (pumping iron) since September but have up'd the intensity a little bit since new years. I am making a lot of gain and instead of feeling old, I'm beginning to feel a little younger, which is good. It's easy to fall out of it since I work a job that consists of almost no physical excertion ever. I hope to continue and further dedicate myself to getting in shape, I'll need to pack on some muscle to endure building the house and it will be more painful to do it during the build instead of starting before. Anyways if we didn't get to see you over the holidays, Merry Christmas, and contact us and set up a time so we can get together.
